A new kind of Bathing suit

This is Lydia attempting to be "culturally sensitive!"

Mucho Calor

Should it ever be this warm inside your casa? I guess you get used to it. One thing is for sure, we are thankful for our new air conditioner. Although we heard horror stories of people here who use their a/c frequently where their electric bills range from $600 to $900 per month. Luckily we live in an apartmento so hopefully our bill will never reach that much.

“Pool Time”

We surprised Lydi last Sunday with a small pool on our patio. It is really heating up here, so we thought it would be fun to have a way to cool off during the day when we are at home. She loves it!!! She was hesitant at first; which is true for her when she is trying to new things, but it did not take her long to enjoy splashing and playing with her “duhs” which translates to “ducks.” Our next door neighbor Marcelo came over this week to have some play time in the new pool. It was really fun. He stays at home during the day with his abuela (Grandmother), so they came over for about an hour one afternoon. It was fun and I got in some good Spanish time.

They play really well together, but when Lydi gets tired of playing this is what happens… “ she starts to whine, and soon she is pointing to Marcelo saying “out, out.” I think she was ready for him to leave her pool and her house, because when he finally got out of the pool, she went to the front door after they walked out she said “bye, bye” and shut the door. She definitely has her limits when it comes to people. She’s so funny, because sometimes she acts just like her mommy and then there are those times that she is much more like her daddy. I guess she’s a good mix!

The Waiting

I find myself doing a lot of this lately… It’s hard coming from a place and culture where you can pretty much get anything you want when you want it. Yeah, that’s not so much true here. Maybe it would be different if I could speak more Spanish, but the bottom line is things just move more slowly here. It’s not bad, it’s just different. Ben and I are actually waiting right now to see our doctor.

I called earlier this week trying to make an appointment and evidently I did not accomplish that task. No one really makes appointments here, you just go whenever you can and in turn you get to see the Doctor whenever he can. We have been at the office since 9:15 it’s now 3:20. Thank goodness we have some friends who are watching Lydi.

We were also supposed to do a hospital tour this morning, but no one ever returned my call. I am adjusting to the waiting game, but when it comes to our unborn child and where he will be born I’d like to maybe at least see where that will happen. I know that it will all work out, and waiting is good for me. It is stretching, but we are definitely learning to adapt as we learn more and more about our new home.

Our Superstar

Ben added a picture to our most recent update about the air conditioner, but I wanted to be sure to post some more pictures of our little girl. She's growing up so fast and many of the most important people in her life aren't here to see it. So, I want to get better about putting pictures of her on here, so you guys can all watch her grow. She loves wearing these sunglasses, and she definitely switches to her little "superstar" mode when she has them on. She'll go to the closest mirror and admire herself. It's hilarious! She's such a blast right now. We absolutely LOVE this age!!!

The most important thing...

It has been quite some time since we gave an update on the Parmer household. I have had tons to write about, but very little time to do so. But, something happened yesterday that I just had to sit down and let everyone know about... we got an air conditioner installed in the front part of our apartment :):):) PTL!!!!

Now, this might not seem like a big deal for some of you, but let me explain. For the past month it has been in the high 80's close to 90's in our living and dining rooms as well as our kitchen. So imagine when I am preparing dinner what the temperature will rise to! My last month of pregnancy also happens to be the same as the hottest month here in Puerto Rico. My sweet hubby saw that I was having a really hard time, and literally it was starting to affect my health since I do stay home with Lydi most of the day. It doesn't really matter if we go out, because it's HOT everywhere!
We talked to some people on our team and discussed the options with our landlord, so we decided to go for it and get an air conditioner!!! We have window units in all of our bedrooms, but no air whatsoever in the front of our house. Not anymore:) We had our cell group meeting tonight and we were sharing the most important thing that happened in our lives this past week. Well, I am sure you can guess what I said!
